Gerphil Flores is now making a name for herself, being one of the eight finalists of Asia’s Got Talent. She is joined by five other nationalities and three Pinoy talents, including Gwyneth Dorado, Junior New System, and shadow act group, El Gamma Penumbra. But did Gerphil prove that Kris Aquino and Ai-ai Delas Alas are not really credible judges of Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT)? Let’s refresh your memories and analyze deeper.
Back in 2010, Gerphil Flores (then named “Fame”) was among the PGT semi-finalists and was hoping to win against balladeer Sherwin Baguion. The opera singer made her rendition of the classical song, Via Dolorosa, while Sherwin sang a popular ballad song. Gerphil had a 25.05% fan votes, while Sherwin earned 17.99% only.
When it’s time for the three judges to vote, Freddie M.Garcia (who was the President of ABS-CBN Corp. that time) was the first one to vote. He voted for Gerphil Flores, saying that he like his voice but that night, he was disappointed with Sherwin because he did not reach the high note. Ai-Ai voted next, followed by Kris Aquino.
"Fame, you are beautiful, you have a future, and Sherwin, even if he did not reach the high note tonight, maybe he lacks sleep, but, yesterday he was perfect. In fairness, you were the one I chose through text, so I voted you." Ai-Ai delas Alas said.
"I always said this. In order to win your audience, you need to sing songs that the audience can identify with. You definitely have the talent, Fame. But in this instance, I’m basing my vote on the impact that, because during commercial break, Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano were both singing." Kris Aquino said.
"That means there’s a recall and that they were touched by Sherwin’s performance. So my vote goes to Sherwin." The presidential sister added, who also agreed with Ai-Ai that Gerphil is beautiful and has a great future ahead of her. The opera singer cried on her farewell speech, but said she will still continue classical songs

Fast forward 2015, Gerphil Flores passed the audition for Asia’s Got Talent with flying colors after singing “Speak Softly Love.” The audience and the four judges gave her a standing ovation. David Foster gave her a Golden Buzzer and even went up to the stage to hug her. Her YouTube video immediately went viral.

For her AGT semi-final performance, Gerphil sang “Love Story” and again received a standing ovation from everyone including the four judges. She won the fan votes and was included in the Finals, where she sang “Impossible Dream.” Her performance was so enchanting and powerful, and brought the house down.

ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY!!! it goes to show that both kris aquino & ai-ai delas alas are THE WORST JUDGES IN ANY TALENT SHOW IN THIS PLANET PERIOD!!! they hav no idea how to recognize true talent right in front of them. the same thing in abs-cbn. they don't recognize real talents either. all they ever want is to get good-looking people in their so-called "talent roster", despite they have absolutely no talent whatsoever. at the same thing, ignoring to those have real talent. if i were gerphil, i will never entertain them at all. what they did to heer is unforgivable to the highest level. i wish gerphil the best of luck. you make our country so proud#ShameOnPGT #ShameOnKrisAquino #ShameOnAiAiDelasAlas #ShameON ABSCBN
ReplyDeleteThere is a 5-year gap between the first (PGT) and the AGT scenario.
ReplyDeleteOk, "Fame" cried in her farewell speech, then (2010 ).
This emotional pain must have given "Fame" the determination to improve
herself in all aspects of the enterprise.
And, the results of her endeavor are showing.
Which can be said that Aquino and de las Alas ---indeed---made her a bettert
singer/performer, in a way.
It would, therefore, be illogical to say negative things against Aquino/de las Alas 2010 decision on "Fame"----for the simple reason that Gerphil IS no longer
that "Fame" of 5 long years ago.

DeleteI completely disagree because of the following argument.
Delete1. At the very start, even if this did not happen, we all know that they are not credible judges. This, coming from them, have not contributed to this outcome in any way. If Gerphil lost because a credible judge said it was not yet the right, then maybe I could agree with you. We must not credit her determination to her experience with these "judges."
2. We will never know what could have happened if Gerphil won PGT. There are more positive things that could have happened if she won. She could have progressed more quickly. Maybe she could have been world-renowned by now or years ago. Maybe Filipinos masses have learned to appreciate classical music by this time.
3. Last and the most important fact you might have missed is that they were discouraging her to sing classical music! Just because she is young it doesn't mean she is not appropriate for the song. They were stereotyping classical music with the old ones. They are trying to change her and disregard her passion. It's like forcing your child, who wants to be a painter, to take an IT course because that's where the money is right now. They are after fame and the money. But Gerphil didn't buy it, she just want to be herself, express herself, share her talent and follow her passion. Good for her.
These so-called judges are just puppets of our corrupt-society. These so called talent show was not really after the talent, but they were looking for a goldmine. Classical music requires higher appreciation. They want to keep the masses ignorant. They would rather have catchy novelty songs, that has no artistic and intellectual value, than let people listen to classical music. That's where the money is, right?
I was able to watch that PGT episode, and I was really infuriated by their decision and more so by their reasoning. What the heck?! I really prayed and hoped that night that Fame would not listen to them and that she continue with her passion. I really hoped that she becomes popular and people would appreciate her so that we can learn to appreciate classical music and most importantly prove to those judges that they were wrong and unreliable!
WELL SAID! I've never been a fan to any talent hosting shows in the Philippines. It's because they rarely have credible judges who can discern real talent.

Pero sa totoo lang although magaling tlga c gerphil tama nmn yn sabi nila dti... iilan ilan lang makaka appreciate ng style na napili nya d2 sa phils. Just think of what happened to lea salonga... she was not that popular dati na as in katulad nila manilyn reynes, tina paner and sheryl cruz... some people even call her "baduy"... kinuwento pa niya dti sa interview nya kng paano sya sinasabihan na palitan na image nya pr mas magappeal sya sa masa pero she really loved her "style" so she chose not to... it was only during miss saigon na fully inaccept talent nya and nakapasok na ang broadway sa "panlasa" ng masang pilipino...
Kng nklusot si gerphil sa grand finals ng PGT sigurado di din tlga sya mananalo kasi nga masa and boboto sa kanya... di pa nga kc tnggap yn gnung genre ng krmihn ng pilipino (mali p nya dti pti napili nyang kanta nya eh 1st time lng cgro narinig ng iba) and alam ng judges yn kasi nga nasa field sila ng entertainment... DI KO SNSBI NA BOBO ANG PILIPINO HA... DI LNG PA GANUN NAEXPOSE ANG PINOY SA GANUNG TYPE OF MUSIC NOON..
Its a good thing sumali sya sa AGT and napansin kasi she will pave the way na ma accept din and genre naman nyang classical and crossover music... maski di sya manalo malaki p rn chance nyang makilala sa buong mundo kng matuloy and promise ni david na "i promise you the whole world will know about you"...

DeleteTalent is talent. the title of the show is Pilipinas Got Talent. Not Pilipinas Bakya Singers.
Sanay kasi mga pinoy sa pangkanto na singing contest. Barely expose to world class singing competition. Often time judges picked for that event belongs to the B crowd. Has no clue how to discern valuable talents. Next time, Whenever there Is a competition, use judges from abroad and don't bother to use the local dorks to pick the winner of the competition.

Shes on a completely different higher level way back then and she just made that gap even more bigger , poor PGT judges theyve tried to judge someone who's a notch higher than them when it comes to music entertainment , so how come theyll appreacite her back then? its hard really if you cant comprehend it. like a elementary student trying to read college books on a masteral and doctorate degree XD ,poor PGT judges i have pity on then , they misread and misjudge Gerphil !!! Question is can they read~judge????

ReplyDeleteGerphil, if ever you win the competition, I would suggest you to make a visit at ABS and show your medal or trophy to Kris and Ai2 and graciously show those two worthless judges what a true talent is.
